Apple supplier Broadcom phasing out the Wi-Fi chip business

Communication chip manufacturers and suppliers of apple Broadcom is planning to gradually eliminate the Wi-Fi chip business, to streamline its labor and product line. Based on the company's recent acquisition of Annwa technology, forming a larger company strategy, will be related in the fiber and the server products to invest more resources.

Compared with other businesses, Wi-Fi chip is considered to be Broadcom lower gross margin business, coupled with a notebook computer, tablet computer, TV and intelligent mobile phone market fierce price war, Broadcom decided to let the phasing out of the Wi-Fi chip business. According to reports, Broadcom company stationed in Taipei factory staff almost reduced by half, while MediaTek, Realtek semiconductor and RDA Microelectronics has received a large number of acute single chip Wi-Fi Broadcom customers.

It is unclear whether this Broadcom decision will affect apple. Apple every year to refresh its desktop and mobile equipment product line. Apple Corp is currently using the 802.11AC standard Wi-Fi chip in its product. Including iPhone and iPad, and MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and iMac.

Two years ago, apple hired a senior engineer before joining Apple company Broadcom baseband hardware development. In 2013, apple acquired a low-power wireless provider Passif semiconductor chip. A part of these acquisitions is seen as the company's strategy, to develop and produce better control of its core technology.
