If you can track heart rate for a few days or weeks, I'll be able to get some useful longitudinal data. Apple watch a heart rate monitor function is in the application start fitness will be triggered when the, so it in daily use under does not record the user's heart rate, but this is I need it to achieve the function (I know this is in order to save electricity, but I am willing to to the function and often charge).

So I regard this situation as an interesting design problem, as I often encounter problems in my daily work. But this time I have to play the role of designers and consumers. Can I come up with a way to keep my Watch Apple heart rate information for the rest of my watch? I have a wealth of experience in the design of medical devices and consumer products, so I hope to be able to use these knowledge to find their own solutions.

My first thought was: I can separate Apple Watch table body and a watchband, which is the core of my design. The body part can be taken out and placed in other parts of my body.

Here is my four step design process:

First step:Determine whether the Watch Apple heart rate sensor can work in other parts of the body. I made a few temporary devices, and then put them in the ankle, shoulder, forearm and abdomen position, see if they can not in my running when the normal work. When placed in the ankle, shoulder and forearm, Watch Apple can smoothly read my heart rate information, but the abdomen can not be. Third step:Think of ways to fix the Watch Apple on the forearm. To put it in my forearm actually not very easy, because Apple strap is not enough length around my forearm and even strap it long enough, screen orientation is not easy to watch. Fourth step:Prototype design. After knowing that Watch Apple was able to read the heart rate correctly in my forearm, I started making all kinds of prototype designs that could be fixed to the forearm. At last I made 4 prototypes.

The first prototype: transparent plastic patch

Use a transparent and harmless medical material (Tegaderm) to cover the body, and then paste it on the arm. This design advantage is easy to operate, and the fixed effect is better; drawback is the plastic stick on the skin perception is not good and apple watch the screen seems less clear.

Second prototype: frame with arm band

Put the body in a plastic frame and fix it with a transparent film, then put on an elastic arm on both sides of the frame, so that the body can be fixed on the arm. Arm with the effect is very good, and the installation and removal of the table is also very easy, but it seems a little over the design, and worn on the arm is too large.

Fourth prototypes: sticky patch

The transparent shell is fixed on an elastic plastic patch, and then a medical safety adhesive is coated on the lower part of the patch (from the first prototype). The advantage of this design is easy to use, good fixed effect, and can be used in various parts of the body, it does not have obvious shortcomings.

Apple watch table is loaded into a transparent plastic shell; the shell is fixed on a harmless sticky patch. The device is worn up not very conspicuous, and I can also wear their finest collection. It can also be flexible to be worn at different locations in the body. The color and style of the patch can also be changed at will. This redesigned Watch Apple is able to keep my feedback on heart rate information in a way that I am looking for.
