Microsoft announced a huge update for.NET developers for UWP, and the biggest improvement was to add support for.NET Standard 2. UWP developers can now access about 20K API. UWP will be consistent with other.NET implementation supporting.NET Standard 2.
However, you need to take advantage of these updates on Visual Studio 201715.4, and in addition, Windows Fall Creators Update provides.NET Standard 2 support for UWP development. To use a new API with.NET Standard 2, you need to set the application's minimum version target to the Windows Fall Creators Update SDK preview. You can then reference.NET Standard 2, NuGet packages, class libraries, and API directly from the UWP application.
