Ochyrocera varys is named after George R. R.'s series "The Song of Ice and Fire" and is named after Lord Varys, nicknamed "Spider." Ochyrocera atlachnacha refers to Atlach-Nacha, the spider god in the horror story of H. P. Lovecraft. Ochyrocera laracna follows the name of Laracna (English Shelob) in the J.R.Tolkien novel, which attacks Frodo and Sam on his way to Modo.
Ochyrocera ungoliant is named after Laracna's mother, Ungoliant. She appeared in "The Silmarillion" ahead of The Two Towers. Ochyrocera aragogue is named after the giant talking spider Aragog in J.R.Tolkien's novel. Ochyrocera misspider's name comes from David Kirk's popular children's series novel "little spider."
