The Apple Store in Melbourne Federation Square was approved in December last year. Although the bold design has been recognized by some people, many people think that the architecture which is not magnificent is incompatible with the surrounding buildings.
Ironically, during last year's publicity in federal Plaza, Apple Corp Angela Ahrendts, a retail vice president, also touted the design with the existing style. At that time, Ahrendts said: "Apple federal Plaza store will respect the Plaza style, redesign the design concept and provide the open landscape for the Plaza, so that it will become a new cultural center of the Plaza.
The location of the site was questioned on the Internet when Apple announced the first Melbourne store plan. Apple Store is close to museums, art galleries and restaurants, and is considered to be one of the most important cultural centers in Melbourne.
Several members of Parliament led by Luo Han Leppert, the Australian Green Party, have proposed to lobby the government to adopt and gather public opinion to redesign it. If the bill fails, It could then go to the House of Lords to finally decide whether Apple should be redesigned.
