Although the company uses DOC, XLS, and PPT for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in Office 2003, the next update brings DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX file format updates to it. To keep users reluctant to edit new versions of older productivity suite versions prior to Office 2013, the software giant released the compatibility pack, adding support for the new file format.

Now it turns out that Microsoft is ready to bring the Office compatibility package to an end, even if it's not officially announced. As Woody Leonhard points out, it's all going to happen on April. The package will no longer receive other updates and security patches at that time.

Microsoft currently has only the text on the page, and KB924074 is the official document for the Office Compatibility Pack and does not contain any additional details about the date the update was stopped, but only contains the information the user needed to open the new file format in earlier versions of Microsoft Office . This page was last modified on January 8, 2017.

Microsoft's decision is likely based on the fact that only a few customers are still running legacy versions of Office productivity suites and no longer need compatibility packs for adding support for new file formats. On the other hand, Microsoft plans to make the compatibility package come to an end, the user can stillUse this linkDownload Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack from Softpedia.
