Amazon may be preparing to build a second headquarters, let each city compete with each other, and promised to provide an astonishing number of new jobs, but this does not mean that the company's existing employees' work is safe.
Amazon said that the company’s recent rapid growth has caused some departments to exceed budgets and some teams have too many staff.
The company said in a statement: “As part of our annual plan, we are making full adjustments to the company – we have made small-scale layoffs in some places and actively recruited in many other places. For the affected employees, we Try to find a role for them in the areas we recruit."
According to a statement, the current number of candidates for the second headquarters of Amazon has been reduced from 238 to 20. In this shortlist, 19 cities are located in the United States and 1 city is located in Canada. Most of these cities are located on the east coast of the United States, and Amazon’s existing headquarters is located on the west coast of the United States.
The successful bidder will benefit from a large number of high-paying jobs because Amazon claims that as soon as the company’s second headquarters begins operations, up to 50,000 employees may work there.
Amazon also plans to spend more than five billion US dollars to purchase new facilities. This expenditure is similar to Apple's latest headquarters Apple Park's cost.
