Windows Timeline function;
Each time the feature is updated, Microsoft will release some heavy functions. And in the Windows 10 April 2018 update, the most noteworthy new feature is the Windows Timeline feature. The feature was originally planned to appear in the fall creator update, but was postponed to RedStone 4 due to time constraints and when the feature was still imperfect.
The core of the Windows Timeline feature is Microsoft's Project Rome cross-platform project, which enables users to resume operations and activities previously performed on Windows PCs, Android, and iOS devices after the user logs in to the Microsoft account.
The user can access the Windows Timeline feature by clicking on the task view button. Users can still enter virtual desktops this way. The content presented by this function depends on the tasks the user previously performed, basically including applications and files that have been used and opened.
Near Share Features:
Assuming you are meeting with your boss, how can you quickly pass on the information and reports that you have on hand to them? The recently introduced Near Share feature allows you to wirelessly share files and URL links to nearby PCs.
First of all, your PC needs to support Bluetooth connection. The entire operation steps are as follows:
1. Make sure your PC activates the Near Share feature (both the recipient and the sender have higher versions of Windows 10 than Build 17035), and the user can quickly activate and open it through the Action Center. If you do not see this option in Quick Action, you can select Add/Remove Quick Actions in Settings > Notifications and Actions.
2. Find the Share button in any of your favorite apps (eg Photos, Microsoft Edge, or even Explorer).
3. Click on the share button, the user will be able to see nearby devices on the pop-up list, and the user will then select the PC he wants to share.
4. Once the other party agrees to share (the option to accept or reject will appear on the Action Center of the other PC's device), then the user can wirelessly transmit data.
Progressive Web Apps:
Progressive Web App for Progressive Web Applications Microsoft defines PWA as a "web application that can be used like a native app." They are included in a .appx container and support offline and notification push.
PWA can work on many different devices, including cell phones, Xbox One consoles, Windows Mixed Reality (MR) headsets, and more. Microsoft's acronym PWA will be fully functional, and consumers should not observe the difference between it and the native application.
Microsoft Edge browser becomes more modern
When the Edge browser was just launched, many consumers thought it was Microsoft's move to catch Chrome and other third-party browsers. In every version of Windows 10, Microsoft has made a lot of improvements to Edge.
In Windows 10 April 2018 Update, Edge browser introduces many new features, including mute tabs, improved user interface, support for extensions in privacy mode, and more.
In the new Windows 10 feature update, the biggest user experience when using Edge is to become more concise after enabling the Fluent Design design language. The "Reveal" and "Acrylic" effects can be adjusted with your mouse.
In addition, Microsoft has adjusted the Hub in the Edge browser to make bookmarks, e-books, access history, and reading lists easier to find. Other improvements in the user interface include enhanced dark mode, better contrast, and better protection of your eyes. Finally, the Edge browser also supports extensions in privacy mode.
In addition to the user interface adjustments, Microsoft also made many adjustments and optimizations to the inside of the Edge browser. Edge can read credit cards and user addresses and can automatically populate your online shopping or other tasks. And when you open a new tab, the Favorites bar is automatically displayed.
Full-screen mode improvement (F11) to access the address bar without leaving full-screen mode and lead to otherwebsite, add website to favorites and other functions. When the user moves the mouse to the top in full screen mode, the address bar will automatically pop up. Or you can use gestures to swipe down from the top in the tablet mode.

Cortana gets a new look
In the new version of Cortana, a brand new supported personal center page was introduced to facilitate users to add and edit personal information. On this page, traffic updates can be provided for the user's daily attendance, and it is easy to set reminders when leaving or arriving at a location. On this page, you can access the notebook section of Cortana, and these adjustments will be open to all Cortana markets.
In addition, Microsoft also promised that in the personal center page will cover the user's content of interest, family members and accounts and other related information.
Cortana's new Notebook gets performance improvements:
After introducing the new version of Notebook in Build 17063, we received feedback from many users. It is a great pleasure to tell everyone: The new design has now been launched in all supported countries and regions. In Build 17127 we have once again optimized Cortana to make the Notebook load faster. However, the specific speed may depend on the market in which the user is located.
Learn to use a skill in Notebook:
The default skills in the Cortana's Notebook (such as weather, sports, and news) are optimized, users have more questions to ask questions, and users can customize the questions in addition to more recommendations.
The new Game Bar
The overall interface and layout have been re-adjusted to make it easier for the user to find the desired function. Multiple buttons are added to the Game Bar to capture screenshots, trigger microphones and cameras, edit titles in the Mixer Live, and use the new clock for easy viewing. Settings and privacy adjustments
The Windows 10 April 2018 update further enhances the transparency of the collected data in response to users' queries and pressures from related functional departments. The Windows Diagnostics Data Viewer feature is added to help users understand what data Microsoft collects. The Verge report quoted foreign media, Microsoft will collect information on peripherals, movie spending habits, installed applications and other related information.
Diagnostic data improvements:
Microsoft will make decisions based on Windows diagnostic data and provide consumers with the most practical and valuable platform possible. Microsoft also attaches great importance to the protection of user privacy and promises that the data collected from users' Windows devices is completely transparent. In the new version, users have the right to control these data. Two new features have been added to the settings "Privacy" diagnosis and feedback.
● Diagnostic data viewer:
The Diagnostic Data Viewer is a Windows application that can review sent diagnostic data to Microsoft, integrates the collected information, and is simply divided into several categories based on Microsoft's usage.
The user can access the settings "Privacy" diagnosis and feedback, activate the diagnostic data viewer switch, and click the button below to trigger the application.
● View your diagnostic events:
On the left side, users can review your diagnostic events. After selecting an event, you can see the relevant details on the right and the details uploaded to Microsoft will be displayed. Microsoft stressed that it will use this data to improve the Windows system.
● Search for your diagnostic event:
The search box at the top of the screen allows you to search for all diagnostic data. Feedback back search results contain any diagnostic events that contain matching keywords.
● Filter diagnostic events by category:
The application's menu button opens the menu where the user can view the diagnostic event categories that indicate how Microsoft will use these events. Selecting a category allows you to filter events.
● Provide diagnostic data feedback:
The Feedback button opens the Feedback Hub app, allowing users to provide feedback and comments on the Diagnostic Data Viewer.
● Standard user permissions settings:
While enhancing diagnostic data transparency and user control, system administrators can set the level of diagnostic data, and ordinary users can update the diagnostic data according to the obtained rights. Any user or administrator will provide notification after adjusting the settings.
Input, optimized numeric keypad
Many users of Windows 10 with a touch screen frequently use the stylus. For these users, Microsoft optimized the virtual keyboard and Windows Ink features. In fact, users can automatically write in the search bar and other applications without tapping the numeric keypad.
On the keyboard side, Microsoft has adjusted the full-touch keyboard interface to support Acrylic glass effects and supports Swiftkey-like sliding input methods. Users can slide input on the virtual keyboard to speed up their input speed.
More and more users are accustomed to searching for matching emoji through text input during the chat. Microsoft added this function support to more languages in this version update. Now when the user tries to enter unicorn, kiwi, artist or turtle (convert to native language input), the relevant emoji will appear in the list of candidates that pop up.
In addition, this update also brought new emoji data to more than 150 languages worldwide, including Arabic (Saudi Arabia), Danish (Denmark), German (Germany), Greek (Greece), English (United Kingdom) , Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Mexico), Finnish (Finland), French (France), Hebrew (Israel), Hindi (India), Dutch (Netherlands), Norwegian (Norway) , Polish (Poland), Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Russian (Russia), Swedish (Swedish), and Turkish.
Now users can insert a set of emojis by:
Based on user feedback, Microsoft has adjusted the design of the Emoji panel. The user can activate the panel through a quick combination of "Windows LOGO" + "." or ";" combination. The user can browse, search and select multiple Emojis. Only the user will turn off after pressing “Esc” or clicking “X” in the upper right corner.
My People went online in fall 2017 and brought many improvements in the Windows 10 April 2018 update. Users can now drag and drop any contacts to the taskbar and can rearrange them to their liking.
The user can rearrange the "personalities" in the taskbar, and can also decide how many contacts (10 or even overflow) are displayed in the taskbar, which is much more than the old version of the three. Related settings: Settings → Personalization → Taskbar → Contacts.
However, there are not many Windows 10 applications that currently integrate with My People. We hope that Microsoft will follow up later.
