Carnegie Mellon University started offering AI undergraduate degrees this year: the first in the United States.

According to foreign media reports, the school of computer science of Carnegie Mellon University will provide an undergraduate degree in artificial intelligence from this autumn semester. This school in Pittsburgh is the first school in the United States to offer such courses. Many industry experts believe that vacancies in this field can not be filled. The school's new project will likely bring high quality talent, and the prestige estimates of Carnegie Mellon also lead to other colleges and universities to launch AI courses.


According to the school's robotics and computer science professor, Reid Simmons, the new AI project manager, the new curriculum will provide students with a solid mathematical, statistical, and computer science foundation that will also make them fully exposed to the various disciplines of AI, including symbolic thrust, probabilistic push, search and planning, graphic models, Robot technology, computer vision, language understanding and human-machine interaction. Students will learn the basic theories behind these disciplines and how to use and develop AI technology.

As far as curriculum is concerned, students will have a complete curriculum for each academic year, with emphasis on machine learning, neural networks, robotics and cognitive science. At present, the course will receive only 30 to 35 students per year.
