A couple in Portland, Oregon, announced a private dialogue that was recorded by the smart phonobox supported by Amazon's intelligent voice assistant Alexa and sent the recordings to acquaintances in their contacts list.
The lady, Danielle (Danielle), said she and her husband received a phone call from an acquaintance two weeks ago to tell them to unplug all the equipment, because he heard their conversation in a home in Seattle (283 kilometers away). Danielle said that friends prove this by providing details about the hardwood floors.
In a statement, Amazon explained the possibility of this: the couple accidentally triggered the Alexa's ability to send voice messages to friends and contacts.
Danielle said that after sending the recording, she and her husband turned off several Alexa - supported devices in the family, which were used to control their safety and lighting. Danielle also said that the device did not recommend that she send the recording.
Danielle stressed that she had called Amason many times until she contacted an engineer. The engineer apologized to her and thanked her for reporting it to the company, but did not explain why the device had sent a recording, and did not explain whether it was a common problem.
