The German Stuttgart High Performance Computing Center (HLRS) announced that the new generation of supercomputing system "Hawk" will use HPE Badger platform, equipped with up to 10,000 AMD Rome EPYC processors, and are all top-matched 64 core 128 threads, a total of 640,000 core 128,000 threads!

HLRS also disclosed that the frequency of these processors was 2.35 GHz. This time, for the first time, we saw the frequency of Rome EPYC, apparently just the reference speed.

Hawk's peak computing performance can reach 2.406 PFlops, or 240 million floating-point computing times per second (2.4TFlops per second), which is realized by EPYC processor alone, and without GPU accelerator, it can already rank among the world's top.

The supercomputing also has 665TB memory and 26PB hard disk, but it is not clear whether the traditional mechanical disk or the new solid state disk.

HLRS also points out that AMD EPYC has excellent scalability in high performance computing and is very suitable for applications in science and industry.

Hawk overruns are expected to cost 38 million euros (about 300 million yuan) and will be deployed by the end of 2019 and put into full use by 2020.

In addition, the Department of Energy (DOE) 's new supernumerary "Perlmutter" had previously advertised the adoption of the next generation of EPYC, which was thought to be the Rome, and revealed today that it would be the next generation of "Milan," using the 7nm process, the Zen 3 architecture.

It is worth mentioning that AMD EPYC has been released for more than a year, and no EPYC has exceeded the global top 500. Only Dawn's authorized version of EPYC 7501, "Dhyana", can barely be counted as one.

And the second generation EPYC has not been released, the third generation has not been published, they have won a large order, I believe that the future EPYC-based high-performance computing systems will be more and more strong.
