Earlier this month, the company cancelled the plan of the External Advisory Committee on Advanced Technology because some of its members were highly controversial. Now, the company has dissolved a committee in the UK that evaluates AI projects in the medical field.

The Committee was established in 2016, when DeepMind, acquired by Google in 2014, formed a unit called DeepMind Health. The aim of the committee is to evaluate the company's projects in partnership with British public health services.

But people familiar with the matter said members of the committee questioned its ability to access information, the effectiveness of its recommendations and whether DeepMind could remain independent from Google. Google communicated last year about the restructuring of the division, but ultimately decided to dissolve the Committee completely.

Disbanding two AI assessment committees in the short term is clearly not a good thing for Google, especially considering the increasingly serious ethical issues associated with AI. The committee will eventually issue a report based on their lessons learned. This may serve as a reference for other evaluation committees that the company will set up in the future. (Book Yu)
