In recent years, processors and operating systems are very popular, because these two fields are just the shortcomings of domestic companies, which are easy to be stuck by European and American companies. Comparing with the domestic breakthroughs in processors, the gap between domestic companies and Microsoft, Google, Apple and other companies on operating systems is even wider.
What is the difficulty of domestic operating system? According to the report of CITIC, there are about ten domestic operating systems in China, including Red Flag, Depth, Youqilin, winning Kirin, Wickleen, Starting Point, Niansi Rock, Co-Creation, SP, Sino-Kofangde, Puhua, ZTE New Fulcrum, Yiming, etc., but most of them are secondary development based on Linux.
According to the Research Report of ICT, Chinese operating system manufacturers have made some progress in enriching the ecosystem by developing applications independently and establishing alliances with hardware manufacturers. However, due to the late start and inadequate investment, there is a big gap between China's operating system ecology and the operating system products of Microsoft, Google and Apple abroad in terms of technology and industrial ecology development.
Taking the winning Kirin desktop operating system as an example, it can be adapted to five mainstream CPUs, including Godson, Feiting, Shenwei, Zhongzhi and X86. This aspect is more widely supported than Windows 10, but it is far behind in supporting hardware, application software and database.
At present, there are only about 22 Kirin compatible hardware products, including CPU, printer and scanner, while Windows 10 can support mainstream hardware, only HP printers support about 400.
The gap in software applications is even wider. There are almost 70 applications on Windows 10 platform, while only 8 Kirin desktop operating systems have won the bid, which is only about one-hundred-thousandth of the Windows platform.
To be fair, the winning Kirin is based on Linux. In fact, there are not many software on the Linux platform. The commonly used software on Windows is basically replaced. The eight items mentioned here should refer to those pre-installed on the winning Kirin desktop system. In fact, one in 100,000 is exaggerated, but there are thousands of times the gap, if we consider the quality again. If so, the gap will be even wider.
Generally speaking, it is not wrong to say that the domestic operating system lacks the support of hardware and software ecology. This is also the reason why the domestic system has been unsuccessful for many years. Linux based on open source can also get the ecosystem of the Linux community. If we develop a system by ourselves, the basic software will not be useful.
