Given California's high operating costs, Mitsubishi is expected to save more costs and make it easier to work with Nissan. The Mitsubishi representative said in a statement:
The move to Tennessee is part of Mitsubishi Motors' long-term plan to reshape the US business, from business leaders, dealer partners, to every node in the customer relationship with the car, and the company will focus on innovation and growth in the future.
However, Mitsubishi will still leave its parts distribution department in Southern California, and the R&D department in Michigan will not be transferred.
