[TechWeb] August 12th news, according to foreign media reports, Samsung Electronics is procuring chemical materials used to manufacture semiconductor chips from a Belgian-based company to replace Japanese manufacturers.
The foreign media did not disclose the company name, but some analysts believe that the company should be the Japanese chemical company JSR and the Belgian research institute IMEC 2016 joint venture EUV Resist.
The largest shareholder of EUV Resist is JSR Micro, a subsidiary of JSR in Belgium.
Last month, foreign media also reported that Samsung Electronics began testing hydrogen fluoride at manufacturers in Japan to test new materials on semiconductor production lines.
In addition, South Korean officials also said that the government will increase investment in the development of domestic materials and equipment for the production of chips to strengthen the competitiveness of domestic semiconductor research and development.
