It is understood that Kirin 990 is the first 5G SoC. based on 7nm EUV process in the world. In the test, Kirin 990 uplink test speed can reach 1.25Gbps, download speed as high as 2.3Gbps, support 5G dual card.

The Kirin 990 has two large cores, two medium cores and four small cores, which can effectively improve performance and reduce power consumption. At the same time, the Kylin 990 upgraded the GPU to upgrade from 10 cores to 16-core GPUs, and the first single-stage anti-image noise reduction technology.

On the NPU side, the Kirin 990 carries Huawei's first Leonardo da Vinci architecture to achieve up to 24 times energy efficiency through large nuclear micronucleus designs. At the same time, Kirin 990 upgrades Kirin chip from AI 1.0 to mobile AI 2.0, combines 5G and real-time end-to-side AI with real-time cloud AI, so that this generation of Kirin 990 can improve the overall AI computing power to a new height, and can open up more AI application scenes, such as real-time multi-power segmentation of video, moving some characters out of the video, changing background or magnifying.

According to Yu Chengdong, Kirin 990 has the largest number of operators, supporting 90% of the visual computing neural network. In addition, Kirin 990 added EUV ultraviolet lithography technology, using light erosion to carve out the layout of transistors and other components on silicon wafers, which can increase the density of transistors in the chip and make the components more powerful and lower energy consumption at the same time.

Two days ago, three stars Exynos 980, an integrated 5G baseband processor based on 8nm technology, is introduced first, and supports both NSA and SA dual-mode 5G networks. Samsung's Exynos 980 terminal will be launched within the year. It is understood that Samsung will send samples to terminal manufacturers in the third quarter of this year, speculating that commercial terminals should be listed at the end of the year.

At Huawei's press conference today, Yu Chengdong mentioned the Exynos 980, implying that Samsung had released a "PPT" 5G chip.

Prior to this, 5G has been releasedMobile phoneIt is used to store the 5G base band. The plug-in baseband has the problems of large volume, heavy component, heat generation and high power consumption, resulting in a smaller battery life than 4G. And the base band is built into the SoC, so that the main board space can be saved, the heating problem can be reduced, the power consumption can be effectively reduced, and the battery life can be improved.

Compared with the transition from 3G to 4G, in the 5G era, infrastructure, network services and terminals are almost synchronized, and even the terminals push up chip manufacturers and operators to promote the commercial use of 5G.

On June 6 this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a 5G commercial license, mobile phone manufacturers fired, one after another launched its first 5G commercial mobile phone. Except Kirin 980 and Baron 5000 equipped with Huawei Mate 20X (5G) support NSA and SA networks, the other uses Qualcomm X50 baseband, which only supports a 5G networking mode of NSA.

Currently, among several other players in the industry with the ability to provide a 5g baseband, qualcomm's integrated soc is said to be commercially available until the end of this year, while unicom's will wait until early next year.

Huawei has sent an invitation letter to the media recently. It is scheduled to launch a new Mate 30 series in Berlin, Germany, on September 19. It will carry Kirin 990. It is no surprise that Kirin 990 may become the first commercial 5G SoC in the industry, and Huawei Mate 30 series is expected to be the first commercial mobile phone carrying 5G SoC in the world.
