On the morning of February 11th, Amazon confirmed Monday that it has hired Sony executive Mike Hopkins to lead its production division and Prime Video. Amazon's original film and television content division has previously reported to Jeff Blackburn.

Blackburn, a longtime Amazon executive, announced last year that he would take a year off. In addition to the Amazon studios production business, Blackburn is responsible for Amazon's streaming music services, business development and advertising departments.

Hopkins will report to CEO Jeff Bezos, but within a smaller mandate than Blackburn. Jennifer Salke, a former NBC executive who was hired to lead Amazon's production business in 2018, and Greg Hart, head of Prime Video streaming services, will report to Hopkins.

The company did not disclose the number of viewers of its show or how many of the world's 150 million Prime members watched video services. But Prime Video is considered one of the biggest streaming services and is now the only one in the world that can compete with Netflix. Amazon spent $7.8 billion on video and music content and digital subscription services last year, up 16 percent from 2018.

Hopkins has also previously run Hulu streaming services. An Amazon spokesman said he plans to join Amazon later this month.
