According to the Nikkei News Chinese network, recently, Nikkei Chinese network and Japan astamuse, which operates the intellectual property database, analyzed AI related patents. As of October 2019, the total number of patents applied in the world has reached 72000. China and the United States accounted for more than 30% respectively, followed by Japan, accounting for more than 10%.

According to the annual data of each year, until 2017, China has been led by the United States, with 5500 AI patents in 2017, surpassing 4300 in the United States for the first time. It is reported that the increase in the number of applications is beneficial to IT enterprises known as "bat (i.e. Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent Holdings)". In terms of the number of applications after 2015, Baidu ranked second only to IBM, and Alibaba group and Tencent holdings also entered the top 10.

It is reported that the three enterprises are respectively building AI technology in their respective fields, baidu is responsible for automatic driving, Alibaba is responsible for smart city, Tencent is responsible for medical treatment, etc. For example, face recognition AI developed by Alibaba and others has high accuracy, which can identify people and settle accounts; Tencent's enterprises provide free physical examination to rural areas of China, and use the data collected to improve AI capabilities.

It is understood that IBM and Microsoft have been working in the field of AI for a long time. According to the statistics of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the number of related patent applications of the two enterprises in the field of machine learning as the basic AI technology also ranked in the top two places.

However, the report also pointed out that the strength of Chinese enterprises should not be underestimated. According to WIPO's survey, the number of patents of Chinese enterprises has grown rapidly in the fields of online shopping related "recommendations" and abnormal detection of factory equipment in machine learning. From 2013 to 2016, the number of applications of State Grid of China increased by 70% every year. The company's AI technology in the field of power management is unique in the world. It can be seen that the quality of AI patent application of Chinese enterprises is in the future.
