India's streaming media application MX player expands to the U.S., the U.K. and other markets

MX player, an on-demand video streaming service owned by times Internet, an Indian conglomerate, is expanding to six new international markets, including the United States and the United Kingdom, providing entertainment content to more people trapped in their homes.Singapore based on-demand video streaming service raised $111 million in a round of financing led by Tencent last year. In addition to the US and UK, the service has been extended to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh and Nepal, the company said.

In an interview with techcrunch, Karan Bedi, chief executive of the service, said that MX player, like India, will provide its video programs to users in the international market free of charge and profit from advertising. The streaming service has accumulated more than 175 million monthly active users in India and provides local related videos in each market.
