In addition to patents, WIPO received 64400 international trademark applications and 21807 industrial design applications in 2019, up 5.7% and 10.4% respectively.
As we all know, the United States is a strong public in the field of science and technology,As a result, since the patent cooperation treaty was WIPO in 1978, the United States has been the world's largest international patent applicant for more than 40 years, until it was surpassed by China in 2019.
In 2019, China submitted 58990 patent applications through the Patent Cooperation Treaty mechanism, more than 5,000 more than 53355 in 2018, ranking first in the world。
The United States ranked second with 57840 patent applications, with 56142 filed in 2018.
After the United States, Japan, Germany and South Korea ranked third, fourth and fifth respectively.
Francis gurry, director general of the world intellectual property organization, also congratulated China on its achievements. He said that China's overtaking of the United States as the number one international patent application means that the global innovation pattern is shifting to the eastern region. At present, the number of applications from Asian countries has exceeded half of the International total.
Gao Rui said that in 1999, the number of international patent applications submitted by China to WIPO was only 276, and now it has reached 58990. In 20 years, the number of patent applications in China has increased more than 200 times.
