When a computer breaks down, even an old bird will have to study for a long time to find out the cause (sometimes it can't be found at all). For example, if the network breaks down suddenly, it will have to be checked from soft to hard, which is annoying.
In order to help users find and solve computer problems, Microsoft has been sparing no effort. When Windows 10 v1809 was introduced, it was calledThe new function of packetmon for short, and the corresponding process is pktmon.exe 。
This is a cross component network diagnosis tool, which supports packet capture, packet loss detection, packet filtering and counting. It will capture every packet passing through the network and penetrate into the network stack, so as to detect the root cause of network fault quickly and accurately, especially suitable for large-scale network environment.
This feature has been upgraded since its birth, and in the latest version of windows 10 V2004, it ushered in a large-scale update with more skills:
- capture packets at different network locations
- support packet loss detection, including packet loss reason Report
- runtime packet filtering, including encapsulation support
- elastic packet count
- real time screen packet monitoring
- mass memory log
- compatible with netmon, Wireshark (pcapng)
However, there are still some limitations of this tool at present, such as only supporting wired Ethernet instead of Wi Fi wireless network, no integrated firewall, and packet loss detection is only supported components. Microsoft promises to improve in the future.
