Microsoft Office 2016 for the Mac platform will be out of support in October this year, and users may face performance and reliability issues. Microsoft said office 2016 for Mac will no longer be supported on Microsoft Office 365 or Microsoft 365 services since it was launched on October 13, 2020.
Microsoft officially recommends that users upgrade as soon as possible. Although it may still be available after expiration, commercial versions of onedrive, SharePoint, and exchange online will not be supported.
If you go to Microsoft's official announcement, you may feel vague. To begin with, Microsoft says Office 2016 will continue to gain support, but this is for the Windows version. Microsoft then made it clear:
This is because Microsoft plans to officially stop all support for office 2016 on the MAC side on October 13. However, as with office 2019, one-off copies of office 2016 bundled with word, Excel, PowerPoint and outlook will still be supported.
Although office was initially sold through a one-time purchase, Microsoft has been promoting a subscription service called office 365 since 2011. As part of the promotion, Subscribers get updated support, plus new features unique to office 365.
