Apple this week extended its global 13 inch MacBook Pro display backlight service plan, authorizing up to five years of service for eligible laptops after the original purchase date or three years after the planned start date, whichever is longer. The previous deadline was four years after the original purchase date.
Apple's official or authorized service provider will replace the display for the affected 13 inch MacBook Pro models free of charge. To start the repair process, visit theSupport page. If the MacBook Pro has been affected by this problem before the start of the program, and has paid for the maintenance of the display, you can contact Apple for possible refund methods.
In 2019, ifixit, a maintenance website, reported that the backlight problem was caused by a flexible cable that would wear and break after repeatedly opening and closing the display on the affected 13 inch MacBook Pro models. Apple solved the problem by extending the length of the flexible cable by 2mm in the 2018 model.
