On January 18, according to media reports, a South Korean court sentenced Lee Jae Jung, vice president of Samsung Electronics, to two years and six months in prison.

Li Zairong was indicted in February 2017 for asking then President Park Geun hye and his close friend Cui shunshi to help him inherit the management right and offering 29.8 billion won (about 175 million yuan) bribes.

The court of first instance found Li Zairong guilty of bribery and sentenced him to five years' imprisonment, while the court of Second Instance sentenced him to two and a half years' imprisonment and four years' probation. In August 2019, in its final judgment, the Grand Court (Supreme Court) annulled the judgments made by the court of second instance against Li Zairong and other people involved in the case, park Geun hye and Cui shunshi, and sent the case back to the Supreme Court for retrial.
