The beta version of Gnome 40 has been officially released today. If everything is normal, the stable version will be available in one month. Gnome 40 beta has brought a lot of changes, including:
Gnome shell has enabled the redesigned overview area, disabled obsolete extensions by default, and brought other improvements
● mutter ushered in major improvements, including starting xwayland on demand, supporting atomic mode setting, and default to horizontal workspace layout, etc
Experimental support for more web extensions API, as well as other improvements to the Gnome web browser.
New language functions and new API support for GJS JavaScript
Various conversion improvements in Gnome calculator (frequency, week, century, decades, etc.).
GTK 4.1 provides various repairs and improvements.
● GVFS Google integration improves the performance of a large number of file folders, adds shared drive folders, and other new content.
Nautilus file manager improves tag completion in location input, preference dialog box and so on.
