In 2019, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission filed an antitrust lawsuit against Qualcomm. It held that the mode of not providing chips without authorization by Qualcomm, which allowed Qualcomm to refuse to provide chips to companies without patent authorization, violated the federal antitrust law, and required Qualcomm to renegotiate all licensing terms with customers in good faith. However, in August 2020, Qualcomm won an appeal, preventing the company from renegotiating the license agreement with the smartphone manufacturer.
