The international team led by Chinese researchers published a paper in the US journal of scientific progress on the 26th,They have developed a new programmable optical quantum computing chip, which can solve a variety of graph theory problems with quantum algorithms, and is expected to be applied in data search, pattern recognition and other fields.
Researchers from National Defense University of science and technology, Academy of Military Sciences, Sun Yat sen University, Beijing Academy of quantum information science and other Chinese scientific research institutions have cooperated with researchers from many countries to design and develop this new programmable quantum computing chip by using silicon-based integrated optical technology, which can realize fully programmable dynamic simulation of multi particle quantum walk.
Qiang Xiaogang, the first author and corresponding author of the paper and researcher of national defense science and Technology Innovation Research Institute of the Academy of Military Sciences, said that the chip realized the fully programmable control of the evolution time, Hamiltonian, particle identity and exchange characteristics of quantum walk for the first time, thus supporting the implementation of a variety of quantum algorithm applications based on quantum walk model.
According to CAI Xinlun, Professor of Sun Yat sen University and co corresponding author of the paper, the technology of optical quantum chip integrates a large number of optical quantum devices on a single chip by micro nano processing technology, which is an effective way to realize the large-scale application of optical quantum computer. Wu Junjie, a researcher at the University of national defense science and technology and co corresponding author of the paper, said that with the increase of chip size and the number of photons, the computing power of the chip will grow rapidly, but a series of technical challenges still need to be overcome to achieve truly practical quantum computing.
