According to a new report today, TSMC, Apple's main chip supplier, is expected to start using the 3nm manufacturing process in the second half of this year, when the Fab will be able to process 30000 wafers made with more advanced technology. It is reported that, thanks to Apple's order commitment, TSMC plans to expand the monthly production capacity of 3nm process to 55000 tablets in 2022, and further expand the production capacity to 105000 tablets in 2023. The power consumption and performance of 3nm process are 30% and 15% higher than that of 5nm process, respectively.
It was previously reported that TSMC would be ready for mass production in the second half of next year, indicating that the 3nm production roadmap has not changed. At the same time, TSMC plans to expand the manufacturing capacity of 5nm process in the whole year to meet the growing demand of major customers. According to today's report, TSMC will increase its scale from 90000 tablets in the fourth quarter of 2020 to 105000 tablets per month in the first half of 2021, and plans to further expand its process capacity to 120000 tablets in the second half of this year.
