With more and more data centers around the world, the performance of CPU processor or accelerator card is more powerful. The cost of heat dissipation has become one of the bottlenecks. Traditional air cooling is no longer available. Microsoft, Google, FB, Amazon and other companies are developing new heat dissipation technologies.

Microsoft's official website recently revealed its new progress in liquid cooling, saying that the email and other communication services sent by Microsoft employees are completed through the data center on the East Bank of the Columbia River.

The servers in the data center are placed in a special steel tank, immersed in a special liquid.

This liquid looks like water, but it's not,Instead, the coolant developed by 3M company has a boiling point of only 50 degrees, which is much lower than the water temperature of 100 degrees and can boil rapidly.

In addition, the coolant needs to be non-conductive, otherwise it will damage the immersed server chip.

According to Microsoft, this cooling solution can reduce the power consumption of servers by 5% to 15%, and the effect is still obvious.

It is worth mentioning that,In the article of Microsoft, it was mentioned that they learned from miners about this cooling scheme,Because mining requires high energy efficiency, some miners also use liquid cooling to dissipate heat.
