Samsung is losing the competition, TSMC seizes 70% of the world's EUV photoresists

Due to the short supply, EUV photoresist has become the focus of competition among the three manufacturers. However, Intel's 7Nm process will not be completed until 2022, so the main EUV production lines are TSMC and Samsung.

In this competition, the number of EUV photoresists of TSMC is far ahead. According to statistics, ASML has produced about 100 EUV photoresists in recent years,Among them, 70 units were supplied to TSMC, accounting for the vast majority of the shares, most of which were delivered in the last year.

Li Zairong, the head of SamSung group, paid a special visit to ASML last year, hoping to get more EUV photoresists, but it still needs a lot of efforts to narrow the gap with TSMC.

For Samsung, although the price of EUV photoresist exceeds 100 million euro, Samsung can not afford it. The gap between Samsung and TSMC in EUV photoresist is not determined by capital investment,Instead, TSMC has attracted customers, including apple, AMD and Huawei, which is the key for TSMC to expand its EUV production line.

In contrast, Samsung's EUV process customers are too few. In addition to its own exynos chip, the main one is Qualcomm. Although NVIDIA and IBM have also found Samsung for OEM, they have not yet used the EUV production line.
